Biography of
Joseph Mercurio

Joseph Mercurio has worked as a political consultant for more than 30 years and has provided polling and media services in every part of the United States, on nearly 500 campaigns, propositions and other ballot initiatives.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis College, Brooklyn where he became active in politics after becoming an intern and later a staff member for Percy Sutton, the then Manhattan Borough President. After organizing local elections in Manhattan’s West Side and field operations for the McGovern campaign in New York City, he established a political consultant firm.

Among his past and present clients are: the Democratic National Committee, state and local party committees; Presidential candidates including Garry Hart for President 1984; Senate races including Senators, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Warren Rudman, John Danforth and Lloyd Benson; Governors, including Martha Lane Collins; Attorneys General including Bob Abrams and Joe Lieberman; C. Virginia Fields for Borough President and Mayor; and other congressional, state and local campaigns.

Mr. Mercurio has lectured on media and polling at national and regional political party candidate-training academies for federal and local candidates; as well as before university journalism, political science, and campaign management classes. He conducts seminars for the US Department of State for foreign candidates, political consultants, and elected public and party officials.

Mr. Mercurio is adjunct faculty, at New York University, Master of Arts Political Campaign Management Program teaching Strategies and Mechanisms of Political Communications and the Fundamentals of Political Consulting and Campaign Management; and for the Fall/Spring Semesters he is Acting Director of the program.

He has been quoted as a regular political commentator in many local and national news outlets. Mr. Mercurio is a regular commentator on WCBS TV, Channel 5 Fox New York, and New York 1 News. He has written for the New York Post, and The New York Sun and the Resident Publications newspapers, and on web news sites.

Joseph Mercurio is a Vice-President and Mid-Atlantic Director of the American Association of Political Consultants. Mr. Mercurio is president of National Political Services, Inc.
